Upper Fisherman’s (“black sand”) Beach in Marin Headlands: Hidden Gem.

Then an added bonus, and quite the highlight on my trek back up to the dirt lot to head home.. encounter with Harley (friend/manager of a local surf shop I teach yoga at) – he was scoping out the swell and clearly jonesing to catch a wave or two. Apparently OB and other local spots were super crowded today. What a rockstar, tore down there in a heartbeat to get after his passion. Only one out there in the water! and not at all intimidated by the do not swim could die signs. Harley, I bow to you my friend.

Day 11

How Terrapin Crossroads Came To Be

For years now, our family has talked about creating a home away from home, where we could play and listen to music together, while also finding a way to reach out to our community. We find so much value in the arts and feel that so many outlets have shaped our lives, and given us perspective on the world and all its moving parts. A few years ago, we seriously started researching what it would take to truly embark on this adventure. After considering various options, an array of locations and ever-morphing ideas, we were very lucky to come across the wonderful venue located at 100 Yacht Club Drive. The minute we walked through, we knew the shell had the bones and the promise to build a fantastic musical and culinary home. We are so blessed to be right here in Marin, and so excited to bring so much of what our family has experienced to the communities around us. We hope you enjoy the ride!

History

The Grateful Dead are known primarily as a San Francisco band, owing to their very short but very important time living in The City, and being the true embodiment and co-creators of “The San Francisco Sound.” But by 1970, the band had crossed the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin County, with San Rafael becoming the hub of all Grateful Dead activity from 1970 to 1995. So to be accurate, the Grateful Dead was essentially a San Rafael band.

Day 8

Made own Vanilla Sugar Body Scrub – skin is feeling smooth and smelling tasty!

Vanilla Olive Oil Sugar Scrub

1/2 cup granulated (white) sugar
2 cups Turbinado sugar (sugar in the raw)
1 Tablespoon honey
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 Tablespoon Vanilla extract (or your favorite essential oil)

Directions: Combine the two sugars in a bowl and mix to incorporate. Add olive oil and stir. Mix in honey and vanilla. Store in an airtight jar and enjoy!

* This is a coarse scrub, if you would like a more gentle scrub you can substitute brown sugar for the turbinado sugar.
* Always exfoliate before shaving to prevent irritation and achieve a better shave.
* You may add more olive oil to your jar after packing if you desire a different consistency.
* Oil will settle in the jar so stir before using.
* I do not recommend using this scrub on your face. It is intended for use on the body only.

Day 7

30 minute silent meditation at Buddhist Temple of Marin (but have to admit my not planned plan B was a bit more fun :).

unexpected first: Highway ride commute home on Aprilia, first time ever with open face Supermoto helmet and Amber depth enhancing safety glasses. WILD perception, a whole different world..definitely buying a pair of these!

DAY 6

Lesson at Tech Shop on how to use a 3D Scanner/Printer – Scanned face and will have print tomorrow. Awesome instructor, Ky. *Side note – day started out with bike commute over Golden Gate to SF client. WOW sunrise incredible. (see pics)

ATTEMPT TO RIDE A UNICYCLE with friends Marlin, Em-J, and Gia – hard as (maybe even harder than!!) it looks. Fun times.

Day 4

OAKLAND ART MURMUR “Saturday Stroll” – Uptown gallery district with fellow trainer and friend, Catherine. Galleries visited: Vessel, The Wall, Warehouse 416, SLATE, Manna, Mercury 20, Creative Growth Art Center, Classiccars West.

*Another first for the day ended up being experiencing ordering a sandwich from the ‘sandwich nazi’. Visited my friend and her husband/their new pup after art stroll and we went to Grinder’s in Montclair village. Hilarious. I asked Peter (the owner of the sandwich shop) if he was ex-military, he claimed he was the next best thing.. “German”. Worth the experience.
