Day 8- electronic upright bass

Today’s first: Attempt to play the EUB!  Very challenging, didn’t even know this instrument existed until I saw it at my friend’s house.  I opted to learn to pluck a scale (Gmajor) and then picked up the bow to play the strings.. brand new at this, bear with me!

What is it? The electric upright bass (abbreviated EUB) is an electronically amplified version of the double bass that has a minimal or ‘skeleton’ body, which greatly reduces the size and weight of the instrument. The EUB retains enough of the features of the double bass so that double bass players are comfortable performing on it. While the EUB retains some of the tonal characteristics of the double bass, its electrically amplified nature also gives it its own unique sound.

Top nob: master volume, Bottom nob: Treble, switch: up for arco, down for pizzicato

(arco – bow to be used, pizzicato – plucking with fingers)

There are no frets, but there are dots (pictured on the right).

With bow – pretty wild sustain!
